Casual Detached and Outreach Worker

We're looking for a confident, streetwise and reliable Casual Detached and Outreach Worker to help take our youth work beyond the walls of the club and into the community. Working as part of the youth work team, you'll engage young people aged 8 to 19 where they already are, on estates, streets and open spaces across Battersea, building trusted relationships and creating a positive presence in the areas our young people call home. This is about meeting young people on their terms. Not everyone will walk through the doors of a youth club, so you'll go to them: starting conversations, listening without judgement, and being a consistent, dependable adult in their lives. A key part of the role is connecting young people into the wider life of Providence House, so the relationships you build on the street become pathways into our youth club, mentoring and other opportunities. You'll help keep young people safe, spot those who may be at risk, and play your part in raising the aspirations of the young people of Battersea. What we're looking for: Experience of working with children and young people, ideally in detached, outreach or community settings The confidence and resilience to engage young people in public spaces, and the ability to relate to them from all backgrounds A warm, patient and non-judgemental manner, and the ability to build trust quickly A strong understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to keeping young people safe (an enhanced DBS check will be required) Awareness of the issues affecting young people locally, and sound judgement in responding to them Flexibility to work evenings and weekends in line with our session times Casual, sessional hours, paid at an hourly rate. Based around Battersea, working across the local community. Detached work is always carried out in pairs or teams, never alone, following our lone-working and dynamic risk assessment procedures.
